This is a prayer society for people who want to support traditional Latin Mass priests without being clergy themselves. The daily commitment is small and very specific: one decade of the rosary for the holiness of priests and for priestly vocations, plus a short prayer for pastors. Once a year you arrange to have a Mass offered for those same intentions. In return the Fraternity's priests and seminarians pray for you daily, and a Mass is offered each month for the confraternity members in every area. Any Catholic aged fourteen or over can join, including people who never attend an FSSP chapel.
Where it comes from
The lay confraternity of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter. Its official prayer carries a nihil obstat and imprimatur dated February 2007, and the FSSP itself was founded on 18 July 1988. The confraternity is formally distinct from the priestly society.
What you promise
Every day: pray one decade of the holy rosary for the sanctification of priests and for priestly vocations, and recite the Prayer of the Confraternity. Every year: have the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass offered once for these intentions. Members must be Catholic and at least fourteen years old. The commitments do not bind under pain of sin, and membership renews tacitly each year on the feast of the Chair of St Peter, 22 February, unless you say otherwise.
What the Church attaches
Members are counted among the Fraternity's most faithful benefactors and are particular recipients of the daily prayers of its priests and seminarians. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered each month for confraternity members in each area. Recollections and instruction in the faith are also provided, and members receive the Cum Petro newsletter five times a year.
