Serra International

Serra · Serra Club · Serrans · USA Council of Serra International

Founded 1935International lay Catholic apostolate for vocations, organized as local clubs under national councils and Serra International. Civil nonprofit rather than a canonically erected association.

A letter or two

Through a local council. $92 per year combined Serra International and USA Council dues ($46 for a spouse or a member under 35), plus a new member fee of about $12; local club dues additional.

How to find a council

Use the Serra club finder to locate the club nearest you and contact it, or contact the USA Council office directly; the new member application and the initiation fee go through the club, not the national office.

Members have a portal to sign in to.

Serra exists to pray for and encourage vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life, and to look after the seminarians, priests, and religious already in the pipeline. A Serra club meets monthly, usually over a meal, with a speaker who is often a seminarian or a vocations director. Members cook for seminarians, send birthday and ordination cards, host appreciation dinners for priests and sisters, run the monthly International Rosary for Vocations, and show up at ordinations. It suits people who want a low-key, hospitable commitment rather than a service-heavy one, and it is named for St. Junipero Serra.

What you promise

Join a local club, take part in club events, and pay dues. Serra International and the USA Council dues together come to $92 per year per Serran, half that for a spouse or a member under 35, plus a new-member fee of roughly $12. Local clubs add their own dues on top, and one published club figure is $100 per year all in. Clubs expect you at the monthly meeting and at the club's vocations activities.

What the Church attaches

Prayer for vocations is the whole apostolate. Clubs pray the Rosary for vocations, take part in the International Rosary for Vocations on the last Saturday of each month, attend Mass together, and support seminarians spiritually as well as financially. Clubs normally have a priest chaplain.
